November 16, 2022 — The third day of the Philippine Startup Week Conference began with the 6th Technology Business Incubator (TBI) Summit by DOST, which is also one of the main events for the week-long conference.
The TBI Summit is an annual conference that brings all DOST-funded incubators, other government innovation agencies, private incubators, innovators, and some international incubator managers together to promote collaboration and discuss new issues and challenges facing startups and the startup community.
The theme for this year’s TBI Summit is “Homegrown Heroes: Incubating Future Tech Giants”.
Mr. Primitivo Paypon, Executive Director of the Asian Institute of Management-Dado Banatao Incubator and one of the keynote speakers, gave an inspiring message on the role of TBI in inspiring and helping different startup founders.
He also shared how AIM-DBI had successfully established 75 Emergency Quarantine Facilities (EQF) at the height of the pandemic.
Another keynote speaker is Mr. Alfredo Gersava Jr., CMO of Virtualahan, a virtual school where people with disabilities may learn the mindset and skills they need to succeed as entrepreneurs and employees by leveraging the power of technology.
Gersava recounted Virtualahan’s journey from zero to hero and proudly announced that they have a total of 1035 graduates as of this year with a 66% employment rate.
The 2022 Higher Education Institution Readiness for Innovation and Technopreneurship (HEIRIT) Program was also launched at yesterday’s TBI Summit.
It is a program designed to help universities get ready for the requirements of the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) for TBI funding and to teach HEI managers how to run their own DOST-affiliated TBIs to meet the growing demand for early-stage entrepreneurial support.
The summit was followed by an in-person networking lunch and various panel discussions, both online and offline, organized by different startup chapters and enablers like 917Ventures and AHG Lab.
AWS and Seedstars hosted a special networking event to round up Day 3 of Philippine Startup Week.
